Bruce Willis has opposed President Barack Obama's move to tighten gun laws, citing concerns about infringing the second amendment.
My view is that, the US Bill of Rights has been infringed and interpreted wrongly by the courts again and again already, that any Obama action will not do any more damage to it anyway. There was even suggestion once that executing juvenile offenders wasn't 'cruel and usual'! Americans currently have fewer human rights than Australians, who do not even have a Bill of Rights at the federal level. At least Australians cannot face the death penalty, and gay couples are accorded equal rights except marriage in most states and at federal level. What Americans need is a new Bill of Rights.
Now let me use my bottomline of liberty standard to analyse the issue. Guns can cause real harm, as they have just recently. In the light of recent events, it also appears that more Americans now accept gun law reform. I think the government has every right to go through with it, unless it can be shown that there is not a majority of people supporting its moves, in which case the government will have to make its case first.
