Why the Republican Right Will Never Support Peace

With the Trump administration embroiled in the unpopular Iran War, several online influencers known for peddling extremely distasteful antisemitic ideas have been gaining audiences at an unprecedented rate. I think the reason so many people, mainly Trump supporters and former Trump supporters, are buying into the groundless and often antisemitic conspiracy theories about the Iran War is because they can’t face the truth: that Trump, who ran on an anti-war banner for 10 years, has now suddenly morphed into everything he said he wouldn’t be. In other words, he said he was different, but he turned out to be more of the same. And disappointed Trump fans are now latching onto an explanation, any explanation, as to why he turned out to be such a disappointment.

The fact is, the 100% American born and bred neocon war-hawk machine is, alone, responsible for all the endless, needless wars. Over the years, various sections of the media, for various reasons, have provided cover for the neocon war-hawk machine, by blaming someone else for the lack of peace in our world. It’s the communists. It’s the Islamists. It’s Iraq. It’s Iran. It’s North Korea. It’s Cuba. It’s anyone but the neocon war-hawks of America. It is this blaming everyone else but the true culprit that has created fertile ground for the conspiracy theories. The continual demonization of the Democratic Party by right-aligned media outlets, both old and new, backed by big sums of money, also plays a role in blinding people to the fact that the problem is right there, in the Republican Party. They are the world’s biggest and most powerful pro-war party.

The truth is, Trump failed to fundamentally change the Republican Party when it comes to their pro-war nature. Instead, the Republicans changed Trump, at least in this regard. As much as I dislike Trump, I believe he was sincerely anti-war when he first went into politics. But to survive and thrive in the Republican Party, one needs to adapt to its power structure. Trump is very adept at this. It’s why he is President and Ron Paul isn’t. I think the whole trajectory of the interaction between Trump and the Republican Party has demonstrated that the modern Republican Party is, at heart, primarily a party dedicated to a pro-war agenda, more than anything else. That it also has several members with anti-war commitments and libertarian leanings doesn’t change this. It just provides a cover of plausible deniability for the war-hawks. As recent events have demonstrated, Ron Paul and Rand Paul have never had any influence whatsoever on their own party, when it comes to matters concerning war. And those who have become too much of a thorn on the side of the war-mongerers can be easily gotten rid of, as Thomas Massie and Tulsi Gabbard have found out. The Republican Party is simply no place for peace loving people, period.
